Upcycle (v.):

The process of creatively reusing old materials to make something of high quality or value.

Distinct from recycling, which implies the breakdown of old materials into their component parts and fashioning something of generally lower quality, upcycling implicitly preserves the characteristics of the old object and gives it new purpose.

New Release!

Upcycle is the debut album from trumpet soloist Ashley Hall-Tighe and pianist Ana Maria Otamendi. This collection of transcriptions for trumpet and piano by Nathaniel Tighe honors the artists’ common European classical roots while presenting a vision of what might have been possible if the modern trumpet was a solo instrument at the time these works were conceived.

These new transcriptions were created to showcase the substantial talents and artistry of Hall-Tighe and Otamendi, whose formidable talents are a unique fit for the demands of these works.

The piece at the heart of this project is Clara Schumann’s Sonata in G Minor, which was a collaboration with her husband, Robert. It is a substantial work of incredible expressive depth and melodic beauty. It is surrounded by a potpourri of works by well-known composers that highlight the virtuosity and coloristic range of this combination of instruments. The result is a diverse reimagining of classical works for a contemporary audience.
